Warren Hospital installs advanced CT system for superior patient care
February — Warren Hospital recently installed the Toshiba Aquilion 32, an advanced computed tomography (CT) system, to better evaluate and treat patients.
The new system can quickly scan any region of the body for injury, blood clots, infection, and diseases such as cancer to provide essential information for an early diagnosis, resulting in faster treatment and improved outcomes.
Multi-detector CT scanning has dramatically improved the clinician’s ability to accurately diagnose disease at an early stage, which means that patients may avoid more invasive medical procedures.
The scanner uses rotating X-rays to penetrate body tissue, generating multiple slice images that can detect more than traditional radiography. This multi-slice imaging technology captures up to 32 anatomical slices in a single rotation. In addition, the system’s sensitivity and accuracy are enhanced with a process called isotropic scanning, useful for scans of rapidly moving organs like the heart and lungs, which appear blurry when scanned by a traditional CT. Multi-slice imaging is also helpful for examining patients who are unable to hold their breath, such as trauma victims, acutely ill patients and young children.
In addition to providing fast CT scans, Warren Hospital expects to significantly increase its exam capacity — which means more patients can receive the treatment they need faster, and be referred for surgery or discharged from the hospital more quickly.
