Knitters group donations total nearly 300 blankets
August — The combined group of knitters from B’nai Abraham Synagogue and Temple Covenant of Peace, along with several independent knitters, recently donated 73 lap blankets to Warren Hospital, bringing the number donated the past four years to almost 300 blankets.
The blankets are given to patients receiving chemotherapy infusions, clients at The Comfort Zone, the hospital's adult medical day care center, and Emergency Department patients.
One of the group’s crocheters, Josephine Astrab, has created nearly 40% of the total number of blankets donated. The other knitters include Aliette Abo, Phoebe Altman, Phyllis Berg, Ingelise Brown, Elaine Burke, Liz Cartene, Cindy Daniels, Millie Dickmeyer, Shirley Falk, Sheila Goldberg, Wendy Gumbridge, Gloria Hartglass, Gwen Jacobs, Selma Jacowitz, Pat Lacko, Doris Lifland, Bernice Merbaum, Sally Neadle, Ruth Reiter, Gail Williams, Jessica Ytkin and Ann Zukerman.
The group welcomes new knitters/crocheters. If interested, contact Gwen Jacobs at (908) 859-6509. Simple instructions and numerous patterns are available. In addition to knitters, patterns and yarn are also welcome. The group will assist newcomers in learning how to knit/crochet, as well as assist with the blanket project.
