Substance abuse
affects the body, mind and
spirit. Warren Hospital’s Counseling and Addiction Services is dedicated to helping
individuals and families with all aspects of the pain caused by substance abuse.
Education and counseling provide a foundation from which to build a new, drug-free way
of life. Our treatment team offers complete, continuous care to help individuals and
families along all stages of this journey.
In January 2002, the program changed its name from the Alcohol and Drug Recovery
Center to Warren Hospital’s Counseling and Addiction Services. The service also moved
from the hospital to an
office at 98 Baltimore Street, Phillipsburg, at the east end of the Hillcrest Shopping
Center and next to the Phillipsburg Pharmacy. The phone number remains the same:
(908) 859-6787.
OUR PHILOSOPHY
Our treatment philosophy is based on these principles:
• Substance
abuse and dependency debilitates the body, mind and spirit;
• Substance abuse directly affects those closest to the dependent person;
•
Professional help gives individuals the guidance needed to overcome addiction;
• Introduction to and participation in self-help groups offers continuing support during
and after treatment.
INTENSIVE OUTPATIENT TREATMENT FOR ADULTS
We provide an intensive outpatient program for adults. Counselors and clients work
together to design a program that:
• Is tailored to their individual
needs;
• Adjusts to their changing needs over time with an initial focus on intense counseling
and moving toward adjustment to sober lifestyle and relapse prevention;
• Includes services for family members who play a vital role in continuing
care.
Program components
Individual treatment: Our
professional addiction counselors
provide a one-on-one approach, especially in the early stages of the program. These are
combined with group sessions so that clients have time to work on individual issues as
well as to work
with others experiencing similar challenges.
Family services: All of our
outpatient treatment programs place a special emphasis on family services. These include
family and
individual sessions as well as instruction in parenting techniques and ways to build
healthy relationships with children. After program completion, the staff provides
referrals to local marriage and family
therapists if additional help is needed.
INTENSIVE OUTPATIENT PROGRAM FOR
ADOLESCENTS
Our intensive outpatient program for adolescents is uniquely
tailored to this group’s special needs, which often involve the family, school and legal
consequences of substance abuse.
The program is designed with teenagers’
developmental needs in
mind. Most teens are referred to the program by their school, their parents, by courts
or by themselves.
Counselors work with adolescent clients to design a program
that:
• Is tailored to their individual needs;
• Adjusts to their stages of recovery as
it changes over time with an initial focus on intense counseling and moving toward
adjusting
to a sober lifestyle and relapse prevention;
• Includes services for family
members who play a vital role in continuing recovery.
Most program sessions are
held after school hours.
Program components
Individual counseling: Our professional
addiction counselors provide a one-on-one approach, especially in the early stages of
the program. These are combined with group sessions so that teenagers have time to focus
on individual issues as well as to work with others experiencing similar
challenges.
Targeted groups:
In these sessions, a counselor guides a group of teenagers who share common problems and
are working toward developing a sober lifestyle. Since peers often influence behavior in
adolescents, it is especially helpful to have teens talk with and support other
teens.
Family services: A critical aspect of the adolescent outpatient
program is family involvement. Many of our teenage clients have family members coping
with issues such as anger control, communication skills and substance abuse. Family and
individual
sessions are offered as well as instruction in parenting techniques and ways to build
healthy relationships with teenagers.
ENTERING THE PROGRAM
Family members, the courts or self-referral are the most common ways clients enter the
program. School counselors are another source of referral for adolescent
clients.
The Counseling and Addiction Services staff provides assessments, evaluations and
referrals either to our service or another appropriate program. Qualified professionals
conduct all assessments.
In most cases, clients schedule appointments for outpatient assessments and programs by
calling the Counseling and Addiction Services at (908)
859-6787.
FEES
Outpatient services are provided on a fee-for-service basis and, in most cases, are
covered by health and hospitalization insurance. Those not covered under insurance may
qualify for treatment on a
sliding scale fee based on income. No one will be denied service because of an inability
to pay.
